Description

Izotope Stutter Edit (Academic)
Version 1.02

It's an effect. It's an instrument. It's Stutter Edit—an innovative tool for both studio and stage, designed by BT and developed by iZotope.
Tear up your tracks in real time, building thrilling fills, complex effects, shimmering sweeps, and staggering stutters that will leave your listeners screaming for more. They'll think you spent hours slaving over the slices…but all it took was a press of a key. (Don't worry, we won't tell.)
Push your performances and production into a new realm of musical intensity with Stutter Edit

iZotope has released Stutter Edit, its first collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated composer and electronic musician Brian Transeau (BT). Stutter Edit’s features revolve around an innovative live sampling engine that lets producers, laptop performers and other musicians manipulate audio in real-time.
Stutter Edit slices audio into small fragments and sequences the pieces into razor-sharp rhythmic effects, recreating techniques that once took hours to perfect in the studio. Results can range from jarring to subtle: a melody can be disintegrated into a syncopated rhythmic roll, or a drum hit can be transformed into an arpeggiated scale of pitches. The complex set of tools in Stutter Edit is balanced by an elegant MIDI control scheme, which makes adding effects a completely intuitive process—much like playing an instrument.
In addition to these trademark stutter effects, performers and producers can juggle between a multitude of rhythmic effects including gate, pan, digital distortion, delays and filters. The Generator module creates custom noise sweeps that can be triggered along with stutter effects to build tension and create dynamics, both in live performances and studio arrangements.

BT is widely recognized for pioneering the “stutter edit” as a musical technique. He originally designed the Stutter Edit software to help automate his painstaking process for breaking audio into impossibly small fragments and using them for new sound synthesis. Transeau has used various early versions of the Stutter Edit software both in his studio and in live performances for years, but until today these tools have not been available to the public. BT’s Sonik Architects software company was recently acquired by iZotope Inc., who built the technology into a complete product compatible with both PC and Mac OS X platforms and major music production and performance hosts.
Stutter Edit's features revolve around an innovative engine that continuously samples live audio, storing that audio in a buffer that can be manipulated in a myriad of ways.

The key to unlocking Stutter Edit's capabilities is the use of Gestures: a set of effects and their associated timelines that reside on a single MIDI note. The audible result of a Gesture can vary from simple to complex—a Gesture could simply repeat a small chunk of audio at an 1/8 note rhythmic rate, or it could trigger a run of raging glitches that get decimated by a bit crusher before being filtered into a wash of echoes. Whoa.

Condensing such sonic adventures into a single key press is what makes Stutter Edit so playable, especially with its intelligent sense of timing. Stutter Edit is designed with musicality in mind, which frees you to make wild sounds that still feel like a natural part of your tracks. Outside of the studio, couple Stutter Edit with a host like Ableton Live to rocket your performances into a new world of organic improvisation.

Stutter
Repeat audio at a rhythmic note value—create incredible sweeps that transition from one rhythmic value to another.

Quantize
With Quantize off, Stutter Edit sweeps between note values continuously. With it on, you can create unheard-of stepping effects that transform your audio into complex rolls, trills and even arpeggios.

Stutter Matrix
Choose from a note value from 1/4 to 1/1024 for the stutter module to sweep or step between. That's not enough? You can also make your audio repeat at a high enough frequency to turn it into musical pitches

Delay
The dual channel Delay can slide between 1/8th to 1/64th note rhythmic delay times, flying from a subtle chorus to a springy rubber-band effect. Dedicated resonant band-pass filters provide perfectly tweakable results.

Buffer Position
Use this slick radar screen to choose where Stutter Edit pulls audio out of the buffer. Dice drum loops. Jump between notes in a vocal phrase. You can even randomize playback order for unexpected results.

Bit Reduction
Get a dose of digital distortion or add a periodic growl. Like every Stutter Edit module, it'll move in sync with the tempo

Gate
Achieve intense chopping effects that modulate in sync with your track by gating each individual event created by the Stutter module.

Pan
Send stuttered patterns flying left and right at breakneck speeds, or create subtle width and doubled audio that sweeps side to side.

Filters
Shape the sound of each key-controlled Gesture individually. Perfect for cutting the bass, making aggressive resonant sweeps, or creating LFO-like modulation that locks to each Gesture's timeline.

Lo=Fi
Get back to the old-timey future. Adjust the Lo-Fi settings to get a "vintage digital" vibe or bury the whole track in fuzz.

Play effects like an instrument
Remix in real-time, on stage or in the studio
Cutting edge audio slicing and manipulation
Elegant and intuitive MIDI control

New in Version 1.02
Introduced the new iZotope Crash Reporter to help customers automatically submit crash reports to iZotope for rapid diagnosis & bugfixing.

New Features
Quantize Step Time max range has been extended from 1/64 to 1/256T
Less resonant "Gentle" Global Filter mode available in Settings Menu
Triggering an empty gesture key/note will gate Delay feedback (useful as an effect or as a "Panic Mode" for extreme delay settings)
VST 3 support
Preset Manager: folders can now be deleted for easier management, and SE will now warn before overwriting presets with duplicate names UI refinements, including improved parameter value displays and control improvements, typing to enter note values, more
Changes
Many fixes to Generator. Generator was in rare cases producing loud unexpected noises/runaway delays, and this has been fixed for this patch
Other plug-ins including some Arturia synths could cause Stutter Edit to stop working when entering text. This has been resolved
Rare user-reported crashes in several hosts including Logic, Live and Pro Tools have been fixed, and new safeguards added for live performance stability
Authorization problems on 64-bit versions of Windows and some 32-bit hosts have been fixed
Several host-specific bugs with gestures when bouncing tracks and settling (stopping transport) have been fixed

System Requirements
Operating System:
Windows (XP, x64, Vista, 7)
Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later (Universal Binary)

Plug-in Formats:
VST 2.4, VST 3, Audio Unit, Pro Tools 7.4+ (RTAS only)

Fully Supported Hosts:
Apple Logic, Ableton Live, Pro Tools (7.4+), Cakewalk SONAR, Steinberg Cubase 4+/Nuendo 4+, Image Line FL Studio, Cockos REAPER, MOTU Digital Performer

Note
